San Antonio police say a cellphone video helped them solve a deadly West Side stabbing. Witnesses helped too.
Bryan Allen Wilson, 25, is charged with murder. Police also know him by a nickname, "Chops."
The man who died is Cecilio Reyes Lucio, 33. Friends called him "Tips."
Court records say the stabbing happened just after midnight on September 2. It happened near Richter Street and San Fernando Street. That is on the West Side. Police got a call about a stabbing at an apartment there. Officers found Lucio hurt. He had several stab wounds. Medics rushed him to a hospital. He died there a short time later.
A neighbor caught part of the attack on a cellphone video, court records state. The video shows a man with no shirt on. He is holding a knife. He can be heard threatening to stab Lucio again. Lucio is wearing a red shirt in the video. He looks hurt. Police used that video to help solve the case.
Witnesses say the stabbing followed a fight. It was between Wilson and Lucio. Court records say Wilson told Lucio, "I stabbed you." Then he ran to a home on Torreon Street. It was close by.
Police learned people tied to the stabbing were inside that home. Officers called in the SWAT team. Officers talked with the people inside for hours. Then SWAT went in. They pulled out several people. Police held them for questions that night. Two of them turned out to be witnesses. They were not suspects. Police let those two go.
Police kept working the case. Witnesses had told them the suspect went by "Chops." Police then found a Facebook page with a matching photo. That page used the same nickname. The video and the Facebook page helped police name their suspect.
Bexar County booked Wilson into jail on September 11. He is charged with murder. That is a first degree felony in Texas. It can mean five years to life in prison. A judge set his bond at $200,000. Wilson must pay that, or stay in jail, while his case moves through court.
Court records link Wilson to a second case too. He faces a warrant for aggravated robbery. That warrant says the robbery happened at the same home on Torreon Street. It is the same home Wilson ran to after the stabbing.
A neighbor was close enough to catch part of the attack on video. Witnesses knew both men by their nicknames. Police say those two things were key. They helped name a suspect in Lucio's death.
Everyone is presumed innocent until proved otherwise.
