A man with no clothes on walked into a home in Collier County, Florida. When deputies got there, he had on a pair of jeans from that home's couch. That is what the Collier County Sheriff's Office says happened early Thursday.
Deputies arrested Joel Arteaga, 62.
Deputies were sent to a home in Golden Gate at 3:45 a.m. The call was for a burglary in progress.
The woman who called said a naked man was in front of her house. She said she believed he was her neighbor. She also said he went inside the home while her 15-year-old brother was there.
When deputies got there, they found Arteaga walking down the driveway. He had a flashlight. He was sweating a lot, the arrest report says.
Arteaga told deputies his side of the story.
He said he lives across the street. He said he was about to get in the shower. He said he believed someone was inside his home, because he had a lot of money.
He told deputies he grabbed a flashlight and left his house. He said he crossed the street. He said he yelled and banged on the door for help.
He said he saw the door was unlocked. He said he walked in, still calling for help.
Then he found a pair of jeans on the couch. He put them on before deputies got to the home, the sheriff's office says.
The victims told deputies what they saw.
They said they saw Arteaga in their driveway. He was fully nude and holding a flashlight. As they drove up to the home, they said, he came toward them.
They said they drove around the block and called the sheriff's office.
When they came back, they said, they saw Arteaga inside. He was turning the lights on and off, over and over.
Arteaga faces two charges.
The first is burglary of an occupied dwelling, unarmed. A dwelling is a home. Occupied means someone was inside.
The second is petit theft. Petit theft means a small theft. This one is for property from a home or its yard worth under $40.
The only item named in the sheriff's account is the pair of jeans.
Everyone is presumed innocent until proved otherwise.
