A 26-year-old man was shot and killed at a San Antonio apartment complex early Sunday. Police say the shooter was his neighbor.
Terry DeWayne Clark is charged with murder. He is also charged with evading arrest. He was booked into the Bexar County Jail.
The man who died is listed as Sabastian John Robles in a police report. Other public accounts spell his first name Sebastian.
The shooting happened about 1 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 27. It was in the 3200 block of Bolmore Drive. That is on the Southeast Side, near Pecan Valley Drive and Goliad Road.
A police captain told reporters at the scene how it started. A family was arguing outside their apartment. Clark came out of his unit. He tried to step in. Robles told him to go back inside. Both sides went back in.
A short time later, the family started arguing again in the courtyard. Clark came back out and opened fire, the captain said.
Robles was shot in the neck and upper chest, the captain said. Police said he was taken to a hospital, where he died. No one else was hurt.
Clark ran. Officers caught him after a short foot chase near the scene, police said.
Clark's age has been given as 41 in some public accounts and 39 in others.
Robles' mother tells a different story about how it started. She said the neighbor knocked on their door shortly after 1 a.m. Her son opened it.
She said her son told him, "Why are you knocking on the door? Not right now." He shut the door. Then an argument broke out, she said.
She said the man went upstairs. She said he fired a gun from a balcony toward the courtyard. Her son was in the courtyard.
She thinks the first shot was meant to scare her son. Then her son went down, she said.
She said the man came back down and touched her son. She said he then said, "I really shot him."
She said the two men used to get along.
Police have not said what the argument was about.
His mother said she held her son and talked to him. "Breathe, I love you, mama's here," she said she told him.
"He died right here in my arms, right here, waiting for the paramedics to show up," she said.
Police have said he died at a hospital.
A man who has lived at the complex for seven years said he was trying to fall asleep. He heard an argument outside. Then he heard three shots.
"It makes me scared," said the neighbor, Austin Estero.
His mother said her son helped the kids at the complex. "He would fix the tires for their bikes. He'd give them dollars for the ice cream truck," she said. "My son cared about everybody, genuinely."
"It's a tragedy because he wasn't looking for anything, he wasn't looking for trouble," she said.
Neighbors made a memorial for him in the courtyard. The family set up a GoFundMe called "Support the Robles Family." It is to help pay for his funeral.
She was asked if she could forgive the man accused of killing her son. She said she could.
"I will forgive, but I cannot forget," she said. "That is something I will have to remember for the rest of my life."
Clark has other legal trouble. Court records show he had open warrants on other charges. They are for a banned weapon, a felon having a gun, and drunk driving (DWI). Those cases are not tied to the shooting.
Murder is a first-degree felony in Texas. That can mean 5 to 99 years or life in prison if he is found guilty.
Everyone is presumed innocent until proved otherwise.
