A federal judge in Laredo sent a man to prison this week. Prosecutors say he is a member of the Paisa gang.
Guillermo Emeterio Alonzo-Salazar, 36, was sentenced Tuesday. U.S. District Judge John A. Kazen handed down the sentence. The U.S. Attorney's Office for the Southern District of Texas confirmed it.
Court records show Alonzo-Salazar got 37 months for illegal reentry. That means he crossed back into the country after being removed. His sentence runs after a separate six month sentence from another federal case. Add those together and it comes to 43 months in prison.
Border agents removed Alonzo-Salazar from the country on Aug. 29, 2025. That happened in Brownsville. He came right back. Border Patrol found him in Laredo on Dec. 15. That was just 108 days later.
Federal agents filed a complaint the next day. They said Alonzo-Salazar came back without permission. A federal magistrate judge held him without bond two days after that.
Alonzo-Salazar pleaded guilty to illegal reentry in January.
This was not his first time coming back illegally. Agents first removed him from the country in May 2014. He came back illegally. Agents removed him again in March 2022. They removed him a third time in August 2025, right before this latest arrest.
His record also includes other convictions. He was convicted of having 661 kilograms of marijuana with intent to distribute it. He also has a conviction for human smuggling.
After his guilty plea, guards held Alonzo-Salazar at the Rio Grande Processing Center. Court records say he and nine other detainees are accused of assaulting another inmate there. Judge Kazen weighed that when he set the sentence.
Alonzo-Salazar is expected to face deportation once his prison time is done.
