A 17 year old Houston boy now faces a capital murder charge. Cops say he shot and killed a man. It happened at a meetup to sell some property.
Harris County deputies arrested Anthony Castro on Friday. Court documents show he was charged with capital murder. That charge is very serious. It is one of the worst a person can face in Texas.
Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said the shooting happened Sept. 13. He said Castro met Victor Gonzalez. Gonzalez was 34 years old. The two met in North Harris County. They set up a deal. They planned to sell some property, the sheriff said.
Sheriff Gonzalez said the suspects robbed Gonzalez during the meetup. They ran off in a car. Police think more than one person may have helped. So far, only Castro has been arrested and charged.
Victor Gonzalez called 911 right after. He said he had been robbed. He said he was following the suspects in his own car. During that call, he told the operator he had been shot. The shooting happened in the 600 block of John Albers Road. He died at the scene.
Castro now sits in the Harris County Jail. He has no bail, court records show. Records also show Castro has never been arrested before in Harris County.
Victor Gonzalez's wife, Marya Gonzalez, spoke about his death. She said he was loved by his friends. She said his family and kids loved him too.
"Losing the father of my kids has been the worst thing that ever happened in my life. They loved him so, so much ...Take what happened to me and my family as a learning lesson for everyone. That Facebook Market, I mean, don't trust people. Be careful."
Marya Gonzalez wants other families to learn from her loss. She is warning people to watch out. Be careful when you meet strangers from Facebook Marketplace, she said.
Everyone is presumed innocent until proved otherwise.
