A 26-year-old man tried to break up a fight in San Antonio. Police say he was stabbed in the upper body. He went to a hospital with major injuries.
The San Antonio Police Department says it happened Sunday. Officers went to the 5700 block of North Knoll about 12:40 p.m. That street is on the city's northwest side, near Danny Kaye Drive.
Police wrote a first report on the case. In it, officers say a 21-year-old man attacked someone at that spot. The 26-year-old man walked up and tried to stop it. Police say the 21-year-old stabbed him in the upper body.
The man who was stabbed was hurt badly. Police called his injuries major. They did not give his name. El Tejano is not naming him either. No source has named him.
Police say the 21-year-old ran off. Officers found him a short time later. He had minor injuries. He went to a hospital first. Then he was arrested.
Police named him as Ehven Alexander Jones, 21. He is charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
That charge is a second-degree felony in Texas. A second-degree felony can mean 2 to 20 years in prison. It can also carry a fine of up to $10,000.
Police have not said what bond was set. No bond amount has been made public. Police have also not said when Jones goes to court.
Officers at the scene gave a different early story. They said two men who lived together got in a fight. They said the fight got worse and a weapon came out. They said both men went to a hospital in stable shape. They said at least one man was taken in.
The police report tells it another way. It says the 26-year-old just stepped in. It says he was trying to stop an attack. It also says his injuries were major, not stable.
Police have not cleared up that gap. They have not said how the two men knew each other. They have not said what the fight was about.
The police department says the case is still open. Officers said no more details were ready to share.
Everyone is presumed innocent until proved otherwise.
