He had already been convicted. He had already been deported. Twice.

He came back anyway.

On June 1, 2026, Border Patrol agents from the Carrizo Springs Station found Lazaro Alberto Betancourt-Osorio, 44, hiding in the brush near El Indio, Texas. He was with six other people.

He is a Cuban citizen with a serious criminal record.

šŸ“‹ What He Was Convicted Of

Back in 2012, Betancourt-Osorio was convicted in Florida. He used a computer to seduce, solicit, and lure a child. He also traveled to meet that minor.

He served 42 months in prison.

After that, he was deported from the United States in 2016.

He came back illegally.

He was caught again and deported a second time in 2025.

He came back again.

šŸ” Where Agents Found Him

Agents were patrolling a remote area near El Indio. They found him hiding in the brush with six others.

Background checks confirmed who he was and what he had done.

āš–ļø The Charge

Betancourt-Osorio now faces a federal charge of illegal reentry after deportation. Because of his prior sex offense conviction, that charge carries a maximum penalty of up to 20 years in federal prison.

Del Rio Sector Chief Patrol Agent Scott Good said his arrest "highlights the importance of constant vigilance along the immediate border."

"With prior convictions for sexual crimes against children, this illegal alien posed a serious threat to our communities," Good said.
