Ethan Westgard was 19. He went to St. Edward's University. He also took classes at Austin Community College.
On June 11, 2026, someone found him in his dorm room. He was not moving. It was about 4:42 p.m. People tried CPR. It did not save him. Westgard died.
An autopsy checked why he died. It found many drugs in his body. That mix of drugs killed him.
One drug was fentanyl. Fentanyl is a very strong drug. A tiny bit can kill you.
The mix also had two chemicals from kratom. Kratom is a plant. Some people use it like a drug.
Doctors also found alprazolam. That drug is a sedative, a pill that calms you down. Most people call it Xanax. The report also listed buprenorphine and gabapentin. Those are drugs too.
Police say two people gave Westgard the drugs. Those drugs killed him. The two people are Jordan Breck, 22, and Alysia Rodriguez-Mabry, 27.
U.S. Marshals arrested both of them. This happened the week of September 17, 2026. Breck and Rodriguez-Mabry now face murder charges.
Austin police say this is the city's 40th killing this year.
