A man was inside a Weslaco H-E-B on Wednesday night. Then he was stabbed. He ended up with a wound to his neck.

Police say the attack was random. They say the man did nothing to start it.

Hours later, Weslaco police arrested Reymen Armenta, 32. He is charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

The stabbing happened at the H-E-B at 1004 N. Texas Blvd.

Here is what police have said so far.

Officers got the call at about 9:09 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 30. Someone reported a stabbing inside the store.

When officers got there, they found a grown man inside. He had a wound to his neck.

The man who did it was gone. Police say he ran off before officers showed up.

The hurt man went to a local hospital. Police say he is stable.

Police did not say how bad the wound was. They did not say what kind of weapon was used. They have not named the man who was hurt.

At about 2:01 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 1, officers found Armenta at his home in Weslaco. Police say he was taken in without any trouble.

He now faces one charge. It is aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

In Texas, that charge is most often a second-degree felony. That can mean 2 to 20 years in prison.

Police have not said if a judge has set his bond.

Police say there is no more danger to the public from this case. They say the case is still open.

H-E-B put out a statement on Thursday morning. The company said none of its workers were hurt.

"No partners were injured. We are working closely with authorities in their investigation. At H-E-B, the safety of our customers and partners is our top priority," the statement reads. "We work diligently to monitor inside and outside our stores to make the shopping experience as safe and secure as possible."

H-E-B calls its workers "partners."

A random attack is the kind that scares people the most. There is no fight to point to. There is no grudge. A person can be hurt just for being in the wrong place at the wrong time.

That is why the police word "random" matters here. But police have not said why they think the attack was random.

There are still a lot of questions.

Why did the attack happen? Did the two men know each other at all? How did police find Armenta so fast? Did store cameras catch the attack?

Police have not answered those questions yet. They say more updates will come.

The case is in Hidalgo County. In Texas, a felony case like this one goes to a grand jury. The grand jury decides if there is enough proof to move ahead. If there is, it hands up an indictment. That is a formal charge that can lead to a trial.

El Tejano will keep following this case.

Everyone is presumed innocent until proved otherwise.
