A South Carolina mom is in jail on two counts of attempted murder. Deputies say she attacked her own two kids.
Taylor Gosnell, 35, was arrested Saturday, Sept. 26. It happened in Spartanburg County. Her kids are 3 and 6 years old.
The sheriff's office said both kids are expected to recover. But one of them may lose an arm. Prosecutors said the 6-year-old's arm was badly hurt. They said it may have to be amputated, or cut off.
It all started with a welfare check. That is when deputies go to a home to make sure the people inside are OK.
Deputies went to the home at about 2:30 p.m. Saturday. It is in the Cowpens area of the county. They found the two kids with no adult watching them. Both had wounds that looked like knife wounds, deputies said.
Investigators then put the pieces together. The sheriff's office said Gosnell attacked the kids the night before. She used a knife and a blunt object, the sheriff's office said. A blunt object is something hard that is not sharp. Officials did not say what it was.
The 7th Circuit Solicitor's Office also spoke about the case. That is the prosecutor's office for the area. It is a lot like a DA's office here in Texas.
Prosecutors said TVs and mirrors in the home were smashed.
They also said Gosnell showed up at the home. Prosecutors said her mental health was called into question when she got there. She was taken away in an ambulance to be checked. At one point, she tried to run from the ambulance, prosecutors said.
Both kids were taken to Spartanburg Regional Medical Center. The sheriff's office said they are stable. That means their condition is steady.
So far, officials have not given a reason for the attack. It is also not clear who will care for the kids when they leave the hospital.
Gosnell was booked into the Spartanburg County Detention Center. That is the county jail. She was denied bond on Sunday. That means she cannot pay money to get out of jail for now.
Attempted murder is a serious felony in South Carolina. It can mean up to 30 years in prison.
This is not her first case tied to kids. Court records show she was arrested in February 2024. She was charged back then with two counts of putting a child at risk of harm or abandoning a child.
Her bond in that case was $5,000 on each charge, court records show. Those charges are still pending. That means the case is not over yet. She was out on bond in that case when deputies arrested her this weekend.
Gosnell is set to go back to court on Nov. 12, Spartanburg County court records show.
The sheriff's office said deputies are still investigating.
Everyone is presumed innocent until proved otherwise.
