A San Antonio woman is charged with murder. Police say she drove her SUV into her ex-boyfriend and the woman he was dating.

The woman he was dating died. She was 37.

The ex-boyfriend lived. He had minor injuries to his back and ankle.

Dionisiah Kazuko Edwards-Carpeal, 36, faces two charges. One is murder. The other is aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. That is according to Bexar County court records.

Murder in Texas is a first-degree felony. That can mean 5 to 99 years or life in prison.

Here is what police say happened. Most of it comes from an arrest affidavit. That is a sworn document a detective writes to explain an arrest.

It was Monday evening, Sept. 28. The couple had gone to a Wendy's. They were walking home.

The man told police he had dated Edwards-Carpeal for about six years. He said that after they split up, she kept calling and texting him.

He also told police something more. He said she had tried to run him over twice the week before.

On Monday, he said, she started to follow the couple in her silver SUV. He said she drove slowly next to them. He said she asked to talk to him.

A security guard was nearby. The man told the guard that she was following them and bothering them. The guard told her to leave them alone, the arrest report says.

Then, the affidavit says, Edwards-Carpeal and the new girlfriend traded "derogatory comments." That means they insulted each other.

The couple walked away. The man told police she then sped up and hit them both.

He said he flew onto the hood and the windshield. Then he fell to the ground.

At about 5:45 p.m., officers got a call about a fight. It was on Datapoint Drive near Wurzbach Road. That is in the Medical Center area. On the way, officers learned that a silver SUV had hit at least one person.

A worker was closing up a nearby business. She told police she saw the argument and the crash. She said she heard tires screech. Then she saw the SUV swerve into the man and the woman.

She said the woman got dragged under the SUV. A witness also said a back tire ran over her.

Two other witnesses told police they saw the SUV swerve toward the couple before it hit them.

Then, the worker said, the SUV turned around. It drove back past the people it hit. She said the driver looked out the window at the hurt woman. Then the driver drove off.

The worker took video of parts of what happened. She gave it to police. Police say the video backs up what the witnesses said.

Officers found blood on the ground. The affidavit says investigators thought it showed someone had been dragged.

A security guard took a photo of the SUV before it left. Police used the license plate in that photo. It led them to Edwards-Carpeal. The man also picked her out from a photo.

The man told police there was also a man in the passenger seat. The affidavit does not say who he was.

The woman who died was taken to a hospital. She died there. As of Wednesday afternoon, the Bexar County Medical Examiner had not yet confirmed who she was. The medical examiner will also rule on how she died.

Edwards-Carpeal was booked into the Bexar County Jail on Tuesday. A judge set her total bond at $400,000.

Her side of the story has not been made public. So far, every detail comes from police and the people they talked to.

There are still open questions. Who was the man in the passenger seat? Did anyone report the two earlier tries to run the man over? Police have not said.

The case will now go through the Bexar County courts. A grand jury will decide if there is enough proof to indict her. An indictment is a formal charge that can lead to a trial.

Everyone is presumed innocent until proved otherwise.
