A man is now charged with capital murder in San Antonio. Police say he shot and killed a 17-year-old boy. The boy had been missing for days. The man is Angel Leonel Estrada Ramirez, 19.

This is an update to a story El Tejano first reported on September 17. https://www.eltejanorgv.com/missing-san-antonio-teen-found-dead-police-call-it-a-homicide/

Back then, police had no suspect. The boy's name was not used because he was a minor. It is not used here for the same reason.

Capital murder is the worst murder charge in Texas. It can mean life in prison or the death penalty. A warrant for Estrada Ramirez was signed Wednesday, court records show. Bexar County jail records list the charge.

His family said he was missing on September 8. He did not come home from a friend's the day before. That day was Labor Day. The Texas Department of Public Safety then sent out an AMBER Alert.

On September 11, two people found his body in a grassy field. The field is near Wurzbach Parkway and Vista Del Norte. It is close to a reservoir. The medical examiner said he died from gunshot wounds. Police found shell casings and a Cash App card nearby.

Police wrote their case in an arrest affidavit. That is a sworn police statement. It says the two lived in the same apartment complex. They sent messages on Instagram. They planned to meet on September 7. They also sent videos of themselves holding guns.

Police say casings near the body match casings from a second shooting. That shooting was on September 6. It was at a party in Austin. Two people were hurt. Witnesses saw a gray Cadillac and a red Toyota Corolla drive away. Police linked the Corolla to Estrada Ramirez.

San Antonio police pulled over the Corolla on September 18. He was driving. Police arrested him on warrants. They searched the car. They found a shell casing on the floor. Police say it matches the casings from Austin and from the field.

He talked with detectives. He said he went to the party in Austin. He said he had no part in the shooting. He said he found the casing at a construction site. He also said he did not meet the boy.

Detectives asked what he did on September 7. He said he was home. He said he left only to get a sibling from school. Detectives noted that school was closed on Labor Day.

Police got a warrant to search his phone. They say they found WhatsApp messages from September 7. The messages talk about robbing someone. The loot was money, a gun and THC vape pens. In one message, he wrote that two people with him wanted to kill someone. He wrote that the situation "did not lend itself to only robbing the person," the affidavit says.

Police say they also found a video. It shows three men firing a handgun at night. They stand near rocks by the water. Police say the spot looks like where the casings were found. They also found a saved TikTok screenshot about the case.

Police say they think he killed the boy during another felony, such as a robbery. That is what the affidavit says. It is not a court ruling.

He also faces charges in Austin. Austin police say he faces an assault charge from the party shooting. Jail records show four counts of aggravated assault. That is a serious felony charge.

The case now goes through the Bexar County courts. Police have not said if anyone else will be charged. A judge or jury will decide what happened.

Everyone is presumed innocent until proved otherwise.
