A 25 year old woman is back in El Paso County. She must face the worst charge on the books in Texas. Her name is Glenda Marks. The El Paso County Sheriff's Office says Marks starved her two kids back in 2023. One of those kids died from it.
Marks was found in Montague County, more than 600 miles from El Paso. That county sits up in North Texas, right by the Oklahoma line.
A U.S. Marshals task force tracked her down. It is called the Lone Star Fugitive Task Force. This group brings together federal agents, state cops, and local cops. Their only job is to find people who run from the law.
Once she was found, deputies picked her up. They drove her all the way back to El Paso. She now sits in the El Paso County jail.
Her bond is set at 1.6 million dollars. That is the price to walk free while her case moves through court.
A grand jury has already charged Marks. She faces one count of capital murder. That top charge applies because the child who died was under 10 years old. Capital murder is the worst charge in Texas. It can bring the death penalty. It can also bring life in prison with no way out.
She also faces one count of murder. She faces four more counts of hurting a child, an elderly person, or a disabled person. That charge covers hurting someone who cannot fight back. In this case, the Sheriff's Office says that someone was her own kids.
El Tejano will not name the two children in this story. Both are kids, and we do not name child victims.
The case shows how far these fugitive task forces will go to find someone. Marks sits behind bars in El Paso County as her case moves forward.
Everyone is presumed innocent until proved otherwise.
