A 70-year-old San Antonio man is facing a murder charge. He called police on himself. Then he told officers he shot and killed a woman inside his own home.
Ramon Vasquez Rodriguez was arrested Saturday night. San Antonio police went to a home on Presa Street. It sits on the city's South Side, near Mission San Juan. Court records show Rodriguez now faces a murder charge. Murder is a serious felony. It can mean 5 to 99 years, or life, in prison if a jury finds him guilty.
Officers went to the home around 8 p.m. Saturday. A police report says Rodriguez called them himself. He told the dispatcher a woman was "bothering him." That call is what first brought officers to the house.
Officers got to the house fast. They found Rodriguez outside. He told them right away that he shot a woman inside the home, the report says.
Officers went inside next. They found 62 year old Norma Linda Villarreal. She had a gunshot wound. Medics tried to help her, but she died at the scene.
Police have not said how Rodriguez and Villarreal knew each other. It is not clear yet what led to the shooting. Police also have not said what killed her, exactly, or released a full autopsy report.
Officers arrested Rodriguez at the scene. He was booked into the Bexar County jail. His bond was set at $250,000. As of Monday, he was still locked up. Local prosecutors will now review the case and decide how to move forward with the charge.
This is not the first deadly shooting on this part of Presa Street. A man was shot and killed at a motel down the road in January. Back in April 2024, a 27 year old man was killed near South Presa and Topeka Boulevard. Three men later faced murder charges in that case. Neighbors on this stretch of road have seen more than one violent night.
San Antonio has seen fewer killings each of the last three years. The city had 105 killings in 2025. That is down from 127 in 2024 and 165 in 2023. Before that, the city saw 231 killings in 2022, the worst year in recent memory. Police say most killings in the city happen between people who already know each other. Random attacks by strangers are rare.
Bexar County also has a hard record on family violence. The county had 32 deaths tied to family violence in 2024. That is close to the 33 deaths the county saw in 2023. Most of those who died were women. Bexar County has one of the worst rates for this kind of death in all of Texas. It is not known yet if this case is tied to that pattern. Police have not said if Rodriguez and Villarreal were dating, related, or something else.
The shooting sits inside a bigger pattern for the South Side. Most killings here happen between people who know each other, not strangers passing through. That fact is cold comfort for neighbors on Presa Street this week. They are still waiting to learn what happened inside that house.
Everyone is presumed innocent until proved otherwise.
