A judge in Houston has sent a man to federal prison for 63 months. His name is Hector Alexander Cabrera. He is 53 and from Guatemala. He pleaded guilty to illegal reentry. That means coming back to the U.S. without permission after being removed. The U.S. Attorney's Office said this is his third conviction for that crime.
Judge George C. Hanks gave the sentence. Cabrera pleaded guilty on July 27. The office said he is expected to face removal after he serves his time.
The office listed his record. It said he has two earlier convictions for illegal reentry. It also listed these crimes:
Unauthorized use of a motor vehicle. Evading arrest or detention. Criminal mischief. Burglary of a vehicle. Theft. Assault.
The office said he was first removed in September 2006. It said he was removed more than once. He kept coming back.
The new case began on August 19, 2024. The office said officers found him in Houston. He did not have permission to be there. ICE looked into the case. Assistant U.S. Attorney Ekua Assabill took it to court.
The release leaves out some things. It does not say how long he had been in Houston. It does not say where he lived. It does not say how he got back into the country each time. It does not give the dates or places of his older cases.
The office put out the release on Wednesday, October 21. It did not say the day of the sentencing.
