A man is in jail after a stabbing in Half Moon Bay, California. It happened Saturday night, Oct. 17.

The San Mateo County Sheriff's Office says deputies got a call at about 8:30 p.m. A fight was reported outside the San Benito House. That is on Main Street, in the 300 block.

Deputies found a 31-year-old man badly hurt. His wounds looked like stab wounds, the sheriff's office says. He went to a hospital. He is in stable condition. The sheriff's office has not named him.

Nearby deputies saw a man run away. The sheriff's office says he threw a knife as he ran. Deputies caught him fast. They got the knife. The man is Ricardo Raya, 34, of Pacifica.

Raya was booked into the Maguire jail. He was booked on suspicion of attempted murder. He was also booked on suspicion of taking part in a criminal street gang. "On suspicion" means police think he did it. A court has not decided.
