This is an update to a story El Tejano reported on September 27. Read it here: https://www.eltejanorgv.com/three-more-charged-in-deadly-bexar-county-kidnapping/
The man who was still on the run is now in jail.
Matthew Doria is 33. He was arrested Tuesday. He is the fifth person charged in this case.
The case is about a man who was taken by force. His name was Jaime Adolfo Rodriguez. He was 37. He was later found shot dead in southeast Bexar County.
Jail records show two charges against Doria. The first is aggravated kidnapping with a deadly weapon. In Texas, that is a first-degree felony. It can mean 5 to 99 years or life in prison.
The second is aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. That is a serious felony too.
Court records show his bond is $350,000. He is in the Bexar County jail.
His name came up early in this case. Amanda Ann Garza told detectives her side. It is in her arrest documents. She said Rodriguez robbed her of $12,000 on Sept. 4. She said it was at her home. She said the cash was for a drug deal. And she said the money was Doria's.
Now Doria has his own arrest documents. These are sworn documents police give a judge to get a warrant. They lay out what cops say they saw on video.
The documents say a camera at Garza's home caught Doria. He showed up after the robbery she claims. He wore a red Nike "Just Do It" T-shirt. He had on dark pants and white sneakers. The documents say Garza can be seen and heard telling him she had been robbed.
Then came the early hours of Sept. 5.
Another camera caught an attack on Rodriguez at a San Antonio home. That is what the documents say.
On that video, a man is dressed just like Doria. The documents say he hits Rodriguez again and again. They say he tried to force Rodriguez into the back seat of a rental vehicle.
Older arrest documents in the case tell more. They say several people kicked and punched Rodriguez. He tried to run away in his underwear. They chased him down. In the end, he was forced into the back of a white Chevy Tahoe.
A man who lives out there found Rodriguez on Sept. 6. He was on a private road. It was in the 8000 block of New Sulphur Springs Road.
The county medical examiner ruled it a homicide. That means another person caused his death. He had been shot in the upper left chest. He had cuts on his head. Several ribs were broken.
Cops say it all grew out of a fight over money and drugs.
Doria joins four others.
Amanda Garza is 40. Mark Anthony Moran is 38. Carlos Alvidrez Jr. is 36. All three face the same kidnapping charge.
Francisco Garza, 39, was the first one arrested. At first, he was charged with not reporting a crime. Then deputies watched the video. They raised his charges. Now he faces the same two charges as Doria.
Who fired the shot? The older documents give two sides. Moran told deputies that Alvidrez killed Rodriguez. Alvidrez said he chased and hit Rodriguez. He said he forced him into the Tahoe. But he said he did not fire the shot that killed him.
There is also a second money story. One older warrant cites a tipster. The tipster said Rodriguez took $7,000 from a woman who was in jail at the time. It is not clear if both stories are about the same cash.
None of the five faces a murder charge, based on what has been made public so far. The case is still open.
Everyone is presumed innocent until proved otherwise.
