San Antonio police still do not know who shot Herion Chase.

Chase was 44 years old. He died in a parking lot on the city's East Side. It happened on September 8, 2018. Eight years have gone by. No one has been arrested.

Now San Antonio Crime Stoppers wants to try again. The group is offering up to $5,000. The money goes to the person whose tip leads police to an arrest.

Here is what police say happened.

It was about 3:30 in the morning. Chase was standing in the parking lot at Big Cassel's Smoke House. The address is 5855 IH-10 East, near Dietrich Road.

Two men stood across the street. Police said they were next to a white car.

One of the men pulled out a gun. He started shooting at Chase.

One bullet hit Chase in the chest. He died right there in the lot.

Police said a bystander was hit too. That person was not the target.

The two men got into the white car. They drove west on Interstate 10 and got away.

Police believe a fight came first. They have never said what the fight was about.

A camera caught part of it. Police said the video shows two men near a light colored car with four doors. The man on the driver's side fires more than once.

Police have never named a suspect. They have never given a full description of the two men. Nobody has been charged.

Chase's family has asked for help for years. His sister, Seletha Lowe, spoke at a balloon release at his grave one year after he died.

"You know the streets gonna always talk, but for somebody to actually go to the police or call homicide, nobody has been willing to do nothing," Lowe said.

The killing is now a cold case. That means the leads ran out and the file sits open.

Crime Stoppers lists the case under police report number SAPD18191877.

Tips are taken by phone at 210-224-7867. That number also spells 210-224-STOP.

A tip can also go by text message. Text the words Tip 127 and then the tip to 274637. That number spells CRIMES.

Tips can also go through the P3 Tips app. They can go through sacrimestoppers.com as well.

Callers do not have to give a name. Crime Stoppers says tips stay secret.

The reward is capped at $5,000. To get paid, a tip has to lead to an arrest.

Eight years later, one question is still open. Who shot Herion Chase?
