A 31-year-old Edinburg man with three prior drunk driving cases ran a red light and killed a woman on May 2. Her husband and three kids were in the car with her.
Miguel Angel Suarez is charged with intoxication manslaughter and multiple counts of assault with a deadly weapon. His bond was set at over $1 million.
Martha Luna Miranda was 39 years old. She did not make it home that night.
š The Crash
It happened at 6:49 p.m. on May 2, 2026. The intersection of Salinas Boulevard and West Monte Cristo Road in Edinburg.
Suarez ran a red light and hit Miranda's car.
Miranda died at the scene.
Her husband was in the front seat. He was treated at a hospital and released.
A 4-year-old girl was also in the car. She was treated and released.
Two boys, ages 9 and 5, were badly hurt. Ambulances took them to a hospital in San Antonio for more care.

Court records show Suarez had three prior drunk driving cases before this crash.
He had been caught drunk driving before. More than once. And he still got behind the wheel drunk again.
This time, a woman died.
š« He Refused to Talk
According to a probable cause affidavit, Suarez would not cooperate with investigators after the crash.
In Texas, police can get a blood draw without consent when someone is killed in a crash. His refusal did not stop the case.

Suarez was arraigned on May 4. He faces:

His total bond was set at $1,025,000.

Drunk driving kills people in South Texas every year. Most of the time the crashes are called accidents. They are not. Someone chose to drink. Someone chose to drive.
When a person has been caught drunk driving three times and does it again, that choice is hard to look away from.
