A fight over words turned into a felony charge, according to a criminal complaint out of Rio Grande City.
Two sheriff's deputies, Juan Islas and Roel Villarreal, were sent to an apartment on Sept. 30, 2026. The call said a verbal argument had ended. The case number is 2026-02191.
The deputies spoke with a woman. She is the wife of Alfredo Sanchez III. The complaint says she told them he became verbally aggressive. Then, she said, he grabbed a switchblade and ran toward her to hurt her.
El Tejano is not naming her. The complaint names her, but El Tejano does not name victims in family cases unless they have been named publicly.
Sanchez is charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. It is a second degree felony. That can mean 2 to 20 years in prison.
In Texas, an assault becomes "aggravated" when it involves a deadly weapon or serious injury. A knife can be a deadly weapon. A switchblade is a knife that opens with a button or spring.
The State does not have to show she was cut. Threatening someone with a deadly weapon can be enough.
No injury is described in the complaint. The wife is not reported to have been cut or hit.
The complaint does not say how close he got to her. It does not say whether he put the knife down, or where it was found. It does not say if deputies took the knife. It does not say what the argument was about, or whether Sanchez gave his side.
The complaint also mentions writing on the knife. The copy is hard to read there, so El Tejano is leaving that detail out.
The copy of the complaint is marked as a copy. The sworn block is blank. That means El Tejano cannot confirm from the copy alone that the deputy signed under oath before a notary.
El Tejano did not find a bond amount or a court date in the complaint. A judge will set the first hearing. Sanchez will be able to enter a plea and answer the charge.
This is an accusation from a police complaint. It is not proof. Alfredo Sanchez III is presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
