A father in Oregon will spend over 31 years in prison. He killed his own 9-year-old son. He used a spear. At first, he blamed his young daughter.

Levi Higgins-Green is 38 years old. He pleaded guilty on August 31. He admitted to murder and six other crimes. A judge sentenced him on September 8. The case was heard in Coos County, Oregon.

The crime happened near Charleston, Oregon. That was in September 2025. Charleston sits on Oregon's south coast. It is close to Coos Bay.

Deputies rushed to the home. Someone had called about a stabbing. Higgins-Green told them his daughter did it. He said she stabbed her brother by accident. He said they were playing with a spear. That is what the Coos County Sheriff's Office said.

Paramedics tried to save the boy. He died at a hospital a short time later. The hospital serves the Coos Bay area.

Police first arrested Higgins-Green on one murder charge. More charges came later. Detectives learned more about what happened in that home.

Detectives kept working the case. They got a search warrant in October 2025. They searched the home. What they found changed everything.

The evidence pointed to Higgins-Green. It did not point to his daughter. The sheriff's office said he killed his son. His first story was false.

Police have not said what evidence broke the case. They also have not shared a motive.

His daughter has not been charged. She did not do what her father first said. Investigators made that clear once the search was done.

More facts came out later. Investigators found signs of family violence in that home. They said it went back years. Other kids and adults lived there too.

Higgins-Green pleaded guilty to seven crimes. They include second-degree murder. They also include strangulation tied to family violence. He pleaded guilty to three counts of assault. He also pleaded guilty to two counts of first-degree mistreatment.

Judge Martin Stone gave the sentence. Higgins-Green got a life sentence for murder. A life sentence means he may never get out. He must serve at least 25 years first. Only then can he ask for parole. Even then, parole is never guaranteed.

The judge added 80 more months for the other crimes. That is close to seven more years. In total, Higgins-Green must serve at least 31 years and 8 months before he can ask for parole.

Coos County District Attorney Jody Newby's office handled the case.

People reacted after the sheriff's office shared the news online. Many said the sentence was fair. Some called the judge tough but fair to the family.

The sheriff's office did not share the names of the boy, his sister, or other family. It said the family asked for privacy. El Tejano is not naming the children either. Both kids deserve that privacy, especially after something this painful.

This case is a hard lesson. A first story is not always true. Police kept digging instead of stopping early. That work cleared a child of blame that was never hers.
