A woman was shot Thursday in southwest Miami-Dade County. She is 41 and in critical condition. The sheriff's office says she is getting better.

The Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office says she is six to eight weeks pregnant. There is no update on her pregnancy.

Deputies and fire crews went to a home near Country Walk just after 11 a.m. The call was about gunfire.

Sheriff's spokesman Danny Castillo spoke that day. "They discovered a male and a female who suffered gunshot wounds," he said.

Fire crews took the woman to a hospital. The man was pronounced dead.

Castillo said it appears the man shot her. Then he turned the gun on himself.

The sheriff's office named the man as Ivan Granado, 53. Investigators say he did not live there. They say he came on a bike.

This story does not name the woman. In April, she asked a judge for a protection order against Granado, court records show. The judge dismissed it Sept. 30. The records cite "no just cause" and "insufficient evidence." They also show Granado denied the claims. A lawyer for Granado declined to comment.

Detectives have not found a motive.

One neighbor said he heard three shots very close together. Neighbors said they were in shock.

Homicide detectives are on the case. On Friday afternoon, a deputy said she was still critical but better.
