A Starr County deputy pulled up to a home in Rio Grande City at 1:39 a.m. on May 19, 2026. A man stood outside. He held his hand over his bleeding nose.

The man told Deputy Guillermo Silva that his wife, Yariana Rodriguez, punched him. He said she hit his face and body several times. That is what a criminal complaint on file with the court says.

Rodriguez told the deputy a different story. The complaint says she told him her husband shoved her first. She said she hit him back, either to get even or to protect herself.

The deputy decided that the two had hurt each other. Neither one wanted to file charges. The documents say the State filed the case anyway, against both of them.

That detail matters. In Texas, a victim does not have to ask for charges. The State can file on its own when an officer finds probable cause.

Rodriguez is charged with assault causing bodily injury to a family member. In plain words, that means hurting someone she lives with or is close to.

It is a Class A misdemeanor. That is the top level of misdemeanor in Texas. It can mean up to one year in jail and a fine of up to $4,000.

"Bodily injury" in Texas law covers pain, not just broken bones. A bloody nose counts.

The case went through Justice Court, Precinct 4. The case number is WARR-3945. The complaint was filed on May 20. It was sworn the next day before Justice of the Peace Valeri Clark. The judge signed the arrest warrant on May 21.

There is one date problem in the documents. The complaint lists the offense as May 18. The deputy's own account says he was sent to the home on May 19. El Tejano is using the date from the deputy's account.

The warrant was served on Oct. 7, 2026, at 4:44 a.m. at the Starr County Jail. The complaint was filed in May. The warrant was served in October.

El Tejano is not naming the husband. The documents do not say what his own charge is. They do not say he asked for any charge.

El Tejano did not find a bond amount or a court date in the documents. The case now moves to court, where a judge or jury will decide what happened.

Both sides in this case say they were hit. A judge or jury will have to sort out who did what, and why.

A criminal complaint is an accusation. It is not proof. Yariana Rodriguez is presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
