A food company has pulled tomato soup kits from Walmart shelves. Its own lab test hinted at listeria bacteria in the soup.

Kettle Cuisine LLC recalled 3,240 packs of Marketside Tomato Bisque Soup Kit. The 14 ounce box was sold only at some Walmart stores. No one has gotten sick so far, the company says.

This matters because listeria can make people very sick. It can be deadly for babies and older adults. It can also harm sick people with weak immune systems. Pregnant women face the biggest risk. The bacteria can cause a miscarriage or stillbirth. Texas stores got some of the recalled soup kits.

Kettle Cuisine found the problem during its own routine testing. The first test hinted at listeria in the soup. That kind of result is called a presumptive positive. It means an early test showed a warning sign. The company has not said if a second test proved it.

Stores got the recalled soup kits between June 30 and July 7. The soup went out to stores in 29 states in total. Texas was one of them. Other states include California, New York, Georgia, and Pennsylvania.

The recalled box has a UPC code of 194346474004. The best by date on the box reads 8/22/26. Check any tomato bisque soup kit at home against that code.

Kettle Cuisine has one simple message. Do not eat the soup kit. Throw it out or take it back to Walmart for a refund. Also wipe down any counter or fridge shelf that touched the box. Listeria can spread to other food nearby.

Listeria sickness can feel like a stomach bug at first. It can bring a high fever, a bad headache, and an upset stomach. Bad cases can cause a stiff neck or trouble with balance. Most healthy adults feel only mild symptoms. Babies, older folks, and sick people face the highest risk.

Anyone who ate the soup and feels sick should call a doctor. Pregnant women should call their doctor too, even without symptoms yet.

No illnesses tied to this soup have been reported yet. Kettle Cuisine says it is still looking into the matter along with the FDA. It is not clear yet if any Rio Grande Valley stores got the soup. El Tejano will update this story if that changes.
