A Rio Grande City woman is back behind bars. A judge in Cameron County revoked her probation. She was sent back to jail on Monday.
Kristina Yadira Roiz, 39, was booked into Starr County jail this week. The Starr County Sheriff's Office made the arrest on a warrant out of Cameron County.
This goes back to the night of September 23, 2022. It was close to midnight on a road near Rio Hondo. Roiz ran a stop sign at Farm-to-Market Road 2925 and State Highway 106. She crashed into a 25-year-old man's Dodge Ram pickup truck. He was taken to Valley Baptist Medical Center in Harlingen. He died there.
Authorities say Roiz was drunk. Court records also say she had Alprazolam in her system. That is the generic form of Xanax. She also had Midazolam, a sedative drug.
She was charged with intoxication manslaughter. But that charge was dropped. On June 30, 2025, she took a plea deal. She pled guilty to criminally negligent homicide. That is a lesser charge.
As part of the deal, she was sentenced to five years of probation. She also had to serve 180 days at the Cameron County Carrizales-Rucker Detention Center.
On June 16, 2026, a motion was filed to revoke her probation. One day later, a Cameron County judge signed a warrant for her arrest. On Monday, deputies picked her up.
She is now in Starr County jail. The Cameron County court will decide what happens next.
