A young man wanted for murder got caught. He tried to sneak back into Texas. Police caught him right at the border in Eagle Pass. He is 20 years old.
Jason Gonzales got arrested Sunday. It happened at International Bridge II. Mexico had just handed him over to U.S. police. That is what Eagle Pass police said. Gonzales went to the Tom Bowles jail in Eagle Pass. Next, he goes to the Bexar County Jail in San Antonio.
This case shows something. South Texas border towns catch cases from far away. Eagle Pass sits right on the border. Wanted men keep trying to sneak back in there. It is one of the busiest crossing points on the Texas border.
San Antonio police say Gonzales is charged with murder. They say he killed a 37-year-old woman on June 14, 2025. Police records name her as Fnu Bahishta. It happened in an apartment on the Northwest Side of town.
Cops first arrested Gonzales on June 26, 2025. Back then, he faced a murder charge. He also faced a charge called aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. That means police said he attacked someone with a weapon that could kill. But he did not stay in jail. Records show he paid bond. He got out on Nov. 19.
Bond lets a person get out of jail while a case is still open. The person has to promise to show up for court. Sometimes that promise gets broken.
Court records show a judge signed a new warrant in March. A warrant is a paper signed by a judge. It tells police they can arrest someone.
Police say Gonzales faces more charges too. Those come from other cases. They include aggravated robbery, resisting arrest, and running from cops. He also faces a charge for not giving his name. And a charge for carrying a gun the wrong way.
Gonzales did not get far. He got caught trying to cross at Eagle Pass. Police say Mexico caught him first. Then Mexico handed him to U.S. police.
The arrest took teamwork. Eagle Pass police worked with the U.S. Marshals task force. Texas DPS helped too. So did U.S. Customs and Border Protection. Task forces like this one work border crossings every day, looking for wanted people trying to slip through.
Bexar County sits far from the border. But cases like this show something big. South Texas border towns like Eagle Pass end up catching runners from all over the state. A person can run from San Antonio, Houston, or Dallas. The border still catches up with them.
Gonzales now heads back to San Antonio. He must face the murder charge. Murder in Texas is a serious felony. It can mean 5 to 99 years in prison. It can even mean life in prison. It is not clear yet when he goes to court on the new warrant. El Tejano will keep following this case.
