Texas Rangers say a 21-year-old man is armed and dangerous. He is on the run right now. Rodney Robinson III walked free on bond. That happened just before police filed new charges. The charges are tied to a home invasion in San Antonio.
Police have been looking for Robinson since June 15. That is when a home invasion happened in northeast San Antonio. He was not caught right away. Weeks later, a big police sweep in Austin picked him up. But he was only held on older charges at first. By the time Bexar County filed the new home invasion warrants, Robinson was already out on bond.
The case shows how fast a wanted man can slip through the cracks. Robinson was one of four men caught July 8 in Northwest Austin. Two of the other men were already wanted for murder. Those murder cases have nothing to do with the home invasion. Texas Rangers and the Bexar County Sheriff's Office worked the sweep together. Now troopers want help from the public.
A home invasion means someone breaks into a home where people could be inside. Texas can charge that as a serious felony. A felony like that can mean years in prison. That was the kind of charge Bexar County was still building against Robinson.
DPS said police traced a car linked to Robinson. They used license plate cameras to do it. The trail led to an apartment building. It sits near RM 2222 and McNeil Drive in Northwest Austin. Troopers tried to stop Robinson there on July 8. It was just before 1 p.m. He and another man were driving away from the building.
Robinson would not pull over, DPS said. Troopers chased the car for a short time. They used a move to stop the car from driving. Robinson jumped out and ran. Troopers used a stun gun to catch him. He was arrested for evading arrest. He also had warrants out for evading police in a car. Two more warrants were for a gun charge and a drug charge.
The passenger in the car was 23-year-old Devion Sommers. He was arrested on a murder warrant from a different case. He also faces a charge for breaking into a home to commit a felony. Police also charged him with working in a group to break the law. That charge is called organized crime.
Later that same day, a Texas Rangers SWAT team searched a third floor apartment. It was in the same building. Two more men tried to climb down a balcony to get away. Troopers caught them nearby. Nehemiah Pratt, 21, and Kentrell Guillory, 19, were both arrested. They face burglary and organized crime charges. Guillory was also wanted on a murder warrant from Louisiana. Troopers found 11 guns inside the apartment. They also found drugs and a vehicle.
The July 8 sweep pulled a lot of danger off the street in one day. Troopers took 11 guns out of one apartment. Three of the four men caught that day are still locked up. Two of them already had murder charges before this case even started. Robinson is the only one of the four still free.
Sommers, Pratt, and Guillory stayed in jail. Robinson did not. He made bond before Bexar County judges signed off on the new warrants. Those warrants were for the home invasion. By the time the warrants were ready, he was already free.
Robinson is 5 feet 10 inches tall. He weighs about 140 pounds. He has black hair and brown eyes. DPS says he should be treated as armed and dangerous.
