A 19-year-old from Alton will stay in jail. A judge said no to bond. He is charged with killing three of his own family members.

Gaurav Chopra, 19, is accused of shooting his father, his mother, and his grandmother. This happened on June 19, 2026 inside a home in Alton. He is also charged with attempted capital murder and with running from police.

A bond hearing was held this week in Hidalgo County. The judge said no bond on the capital murder charge. That keeps Chopra locked up.

He got a $250,000 bond on the attempted capital murder charge. He also has a $250,000 bond on the evading arrest charge. But the no-bond on capital murder keeps him in jail.

Capital murder is the most serious charge in Texas. It can mean life in prison. It can also mean the death penalty.

Another court date is set for Monday. The District Attorney will go back in front of a judge. They want to keep the no-bond on the capital murder charge. Chopra's lawyers have said he is being held without proper legal cause.

The June 19 shooting hit the city of Alton hard. Alton is a small city in Hidalgo County. Three people died inside one home. Chopra ran from police and was caught.

The Monday hearing could be a turning point. A judge will decide if Chopra stays in jail or gets a shot at bond on the murder charge.

El Tejano will keep watching this case.
