New court papers show what happened before a man died near Calaveras Lake this month. Someone beat him. Then they forced him into a white SUV. He was found dead soon after.
The details come from a sworn statement. That statement backs the arrest of Francisco Garza, 39. The Bexar County Sheriff's Office says Garza knew about the abduction. Deputies say he did not report it before the man died.
Deputies arrested Garza on Friday. He faces one charge. He did not report a felony. That felony involved serious injury or death. His charge is a Class A misdemeanor. It can mean up to a year in county jail. It can also mean a fine up to $4,000.
Garza is not charged with killing anyone. Court papers only say he stayed quiet about the abduction.
A judge set his bail at $10,000.
The man who died is Jaime Rodriguez, 37. Deputies found his body on Sept. 6, 2026. They found him near the 8000 block of New Sulphur Springs Road. That spot sits a quarter mile to half a mile off the road. His body lay about a foot off a private road.
Rodriguez's body had begun to decay when deputies found him. The Sheriff's Office said his body showed "evident trauma."
Deputies found no blood at the scene. They found no gun or knife either. They think someone killed Rodriguez somewhere else. Then that person left his body by the road.
An autopsy fills in more facts. Rodriguez died from a gunshot wound. The bullet hit his upper chest. He also had cuts on his head and face. Several ribs were broken too.
The medical examiner ruled his death a homicide.
Deputies traced Rodriguez's last hours. They talked to witnesses. They also used location data from a rental car he had been driving. That data helped them track his final steps.
The case stays open. Deputies have not said if more arrests are coming.
