A 37-year-old McAllen man is now charged with murder after cops say he killed his grandmother.
Esai Longoria is accused of stabbing Anna Marie Hidalgo, 58, to death. Police say it happened Saturday night, August 22, 2026. It happened at a home in the 1500 block of Redwood Avenue.
Someone called 911 around 10:28 p.m. Police say Longoria's grandmother made the call. She said her grandson had pushed her. She also said he has schizophrenia. That is a serious mental illness. She said he was not taking his medicine.
When cops got to the house, Longoria had locked himself inside. Cops could hear him yelling. He was acting wild. Cops got him out. Then they put him in handcuffs.
Once officers got inside the home, they found Hidalgo dead. She had been stabbed.
Longoria now faces four charges. The most serious is murder. The second charge is resisting arrest. That means he fought officers trying to arrest him. The third charge is assault on a peace officer. That means he tried to hurt a cop during the arrest. The fourth charge is injury to an elderly person. That charge is tied to the harm police say he caused his grandmother.
Police have not said what led up to the stabbing. They have not said if Longoria and Hidalgo lived together. They have not said how long Longoria had gone without his medicine.
MyRGV.com reports Longoria was taken to the hospital. He was still in police custody. Cops have not said why he needed care.
