A man accused of stabbing another man outside a Palmview apartment complex is now behind bars, police say.

Palmview Police arrested Heriberto Cazares, 33, in McAllen on Friday night. Officers got a tip about where Cazares was staying. They arrested him there.

Police say Cazares stabbed another man several times in the chest and stomach on Thursday night. The stabbing happened outside the Vista apartments on Milagro Lane in Palmview. Police did not give an exact address. They only gave the general area of the attack.

The victim was taken to a hospital. He was in stable condition when he got there, police said. His name has not been released.

Police said Cazares and the victim knew each other before the stabbing. Officers have not said how the two men knew each other. They also have not said what led to the fight. The motive for the attack is still unknown. Police have not given one, and El Tejano will not guess at it.

Palmview Police said they believe Cazares is homeless. They did not share more background on him.

Police searched for Cazares through Thursday night and into Friday. On Friday night, a tip led officers to where Cazares was staying in McAllen. They arrested him there.

Palmview is a small city in Hidalgo County, just outside McAllen. It sits in the Rio Grande Valley, home to hundreds of thousands of people in cities that sit close together.

Violent stabbings are not common in Palmview. News of Thursday's attack spread fast on social media that same night.

As of this report, Cazares is in police custody. Formal charges against him have not been made public. No bond amount has been released.

El Tejano will follow this case as it moves through the courts. El Tejano will report any update on charges, bond, or a court date once it comes out.
