Cameron County Sheriff's deputies raided a Brownsville home last week. They found two starving dogs inside with no food and no water. They also found 43 THC vape pens and 241 Xanax pills.
The man who lived there is Julio Cesar Alada, 38. He now faces drug charges and two counts of animal cruelty. His bond was set at $70,000.
Deputies went to the 2300 block of El Porto del Street on a Thursday. When they got inside, the two dogs were right there. The animals were skin and bones. No food. No water. Not anywhere.
The dogs were taken to the Brownsville Animal Control Center. Staff there are nursing them back to health.
Deputies also found 43 THC vape pens and close to 250 Xanax pills. Both get abused and sold on the street. Alada faces drug charges for having and selling them.
Animal cruelty is a real charge in Texas. No food or water for a pet breaks state law. A guilty person can face jail time.
Drug busts happen often in Cameron County. But two starving dogs in the same home made this one stand out. Animal workers in the Valley say cases like this happen more than most folks know.
The case is in the courts now. Alada bonded out at $70,000.
