A Georgia man called 911 from a Red Lobster and said he had a medical emergency. Police say he was fine. They say he just did not want to pay for his dinner.
Abdul Hakeem Rasheed, 26, now faces two charges. Jail records list theft of services and unlawful conduct during a 911 call.
The bill was $63.77, arrest warrants say.
It happened on Sept. 24. Rasheed was eating at the Red Lobster on Highway 5 in Douglasville, Georgia.
He called 911 from inside the restaurant. He said it was a medical emergency. That is what arrest warrants from the Douglasville Police Department say.
Officers showed up. Police say they found that Rasheed was OK.
Police say the call was a trick. The goal, they say, was to get out of paying the check.
An affidavit in the case says Rasheed showed "unlawful conduct" during the 911 call "by deception and with intent to avoid payment."
Jail records show he was booked into the Douglas County Jail on Sept. 25.
Jail records list a $1,500 bond on the theft charge and a $3,000 bond on the 911 charge. His total bond is $4,500. That is far more than the dinner he is accused of trying to skip.
It is not clear what he ordered.
