Now the recall got bigger. H-E-B pulled more than 35 food items off its shelves. The same outbreak is still growing.

This is not a new outbreak. It is the same one. It just got bigger. If you shop at H-E-B here in South Texas, check your fridge. Look for pico de gallo, jalapeno poppers, and other jalapeno foods.

NatureBest Precut and Produce is a Texas company. It is pulling more foods made with jalapenos. The peppers came from Coast Citrus Distributors. New items on the list include H-E-B pico de gallo in mild, medium, and hot. The list also has the H-E-B jalapeno popper stuffed mushroom. It has H-E-B and NatureBest diced jalapenos. It has NatureBest pico de gallo in mild, medium, hot, and mango. It has NatureBest soup mix too.

H-E-B also pulled foods made inside its own stores. These foods used the bad jalapenos. The list includes several kinds of H-E-B guacamole. It includes H-E-B imitation crab and shrimp ceviche. It includes H-E-B deli cheese balls in jalapeno ranch and pineapple jalapeno flavors. The H-E-B deli variety cheese ball tray is on the list too.

These foods went to H-E-B stores in Texas and Louisiana. They sold between July 3 and Aug. 5. That is about five weeks. H-E-B says all the bad food is off the shelves now. Food you buy at H-E-B today is safe.

Did you buy one of these foods? Do not eat it. Throw it away. Or take it back to the store.

The outbreak started with jalapeno peppers grown in Sinaloa, Mexico. The CDC announced a nationwide recall of those peppers this month. Coast Citrus Distributors brought the peppers into the U.S. The peppers went out to stores and restaurants across the country. The FDA checked the supply chain. It found one farm in Sinaloa that sells to Coast Citrus Distributors. The FDA says that farm is the likely cause of the outbreak. Coast Citrus Distributors has agreed to recall what is left of the bad peppers. The company is now telling its customers about the problem.

H-E-B is not alone in this. Taylor Farms is a company based in California. It is also recalling jalapeno foods. Taylor Farms items sold at Kroger and Trader Joe's in 26 states. Other jalapeno foods with no brand name sold at Target, Walmart, and Whole Foods too. This outbreak is national. H-E-B is just one part of it.

The sick count has not changed since El Tejano's first story. The CDC still says 345 people got sick in 27 states, including Texas. No deaths have been reported. But dozens of people ended up in the hospital.

Salmonella makes people sick. It causes diarrhea, fever, stomach cramps, and nausea. Symptoms start six hours to six days after eating bad food. The sickness can last four to seven days. Most people feel better in about a week.
