A man arrested in North Texas is now facing capital murder charges in Mississippi after a triple killing that left a 2 year old dead.
Devone Modacure, 32, was extradited from Texas to Mississippi on July 15, 2026. Extradition is when a person is sent from one state to another to face criminal charges. Modacure is the fourth and final suspect arrested in the killing of three people in Jackson, Mississippi. A judge has denied him bond, which means he must stay in jail while his case moves through court.
The killings happened June 27, 2026. Police say it happened in the 300 block of Queen Alexandria Lane in Jackson. Three people died that day. They were two women, ages 26 and 30, and a 2 year old child.
Jackson Police Chief RaShall Brackney spoke about the case. She said the victims were targeted. She said the youngest victim "was not caught in the crossfire." That means police believe the toddler was not killed by accident during a shootout.
Modacure was arrested July 1, 2026. He was picked up in Kaufman County, Texas. Police say he was arrested in the city of Forney. He was caught two weeks before he was sent back to Mississippi to face the charges against him.
Modacure faces a long list of charges. He is charged with three counts of capital murder, one for each victim. Capital murder is the most serious murder charge. It can carry the death penalty or life in prison. He also faces aggravated assault, armed robbery of an individual, and auto theft.
Modacure also faces a charge of being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm. That means he had already been convicted of a felony crime before. The law does not allow him to own or carry a gun. He is also charged with burglary of an occupied dwelling. That means breaking into a home while someone was inside.
Modacure was not the first person arrested in this case. Three other people were taken into custody before him. All three also face capital murder charges. All three have been denied bond.
Cornelius Carter, 28, is one of those three. He is charged with capital murder and with being a felon in possession of a firearm. Jordan Carter, 28, is also charged with capital murder. He is not related to Cornelius Carter, even though they share a last name.
Mikala Young, 25, was also arrested before Modacure. She was charged with capital murder on Wednesday, around July 1, 2026. A judge in Jackson Municipal Court denied her bond that same week.
All four suspects have now been arrested in this case. All four face capital murder charges. All four have been denied bond by judges in Mississippi. Modacure was the last of the four to be caught. He was found in Texas, far from Jackson, before he was extradited back to Mississippi to answer for the killings.
Jackson police are still asking the public for help. Anyone with information about the case can call the Jackson Police Department tip line. That number is 601-960-1800. Tips can also be sent to Crime Stoppers at 601-355-TIPS, which is 601-355-8477.
The case remains open in Jackson, Mississippi. All four defendants are being held in jail without bond. Their cases continue to move through the Mississippi court system.
Modacure's arrest in Texas closes out the search for suspects in this case. He was arrested in a different state than where the killings happened. He was then brought back to Jackson to face the same capital murder charges as the other three defendants.
