A father in Fort Wayne, Indiana now faces his own gun charge. This comes just one day after a jury found his son guilty of murder.
Cameron Kizer Sr. was charged on Thursday. Federal agents say he is a felon who had a gun. That is against the law. He has not been arrested yet.
Police say the gun tied to his case is linked to the same murder his son just got convicted for. That link is why this new charge matters so much to the case.
A jury found Cameron Kizer Jr. guilty on Friday. He was 19 when he shot and killed Jathen Maxwell in July 2024. Maxwell was 20 years old. Kizer Jr. is now 21. The jury also found he used a gun in the crime. That can add more years to his prison time.
Police say Kizer Jr. shot Maxwell in the hip and in the head. This happened in the 3900 block of Warsaw Avenue in Fort Wayne. After the shooting, Kizer Jr. posted the words "head shot" on social media. He also posted a video of himself rapping on YouTube. In the video, he made lines about the killing.
Witnesses told police Kizer Jr. had been threatening Maxwell for a long time. Court papers say Kizer Jr. did not act alone. He got help planning a robbery and getting a stolen car.
At the time he was charged with murder, Kizer Jr. was already locked up. He was at the Westville Correctional Facility on other charges.
Now his father faces trouble of his own. Fort Wayne police searched Cameron Kizer Sr.'s home while they worked the murder case. They believed the gun used to kill Maxwell might be there. In July 2026, police got a search warrant. They found a Glock handgun in a closet inside the home, according to court papers from U.S. District Court.
That Glock was tied to a different shooting from August 2024. A woman who dates one of Kizer Sr.'s other sons said the gun was hers. Records show the gun was bought in a store in Muncie, Indiana. But this type of Glock is not made in Indiana. That means it had to cross state lines to get there. That detail matters because it lets federal agents step into the case.
An agent with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives worked the gun case. That agency is known as the ATF. Their work led to the new charge against Kizer Sr.
Kizer Sr. also changed his legal name. He is now known as Cameron Moore. The name change took effect June 1.
Kizer Sr. has not been arrested on the new gun charge. It is not clear when that will happen.
For Kizer Jr., the murder case is close to over. A judge will decide his sentence on October 16. He could get up to 85 years in prison. The exact number will depend on what the judge decides that day.
