A family is suing Edinburg CISD for $3 million. They say another student bullied their son and the district did not stop it. They say that student then hurt him at football practice.
The family filed the lawsuit Thursday. El Tejano has not seen a copy of it.
El Tejano does not name minors.
The family claims the bullying went on again and again. Then, during football practice in August 2025, that student attacked him.
The family says the attack broke the boy's collarbone. They say he needed surgery.
The suit claims coaches and school leaders knew of threats before the attack. It claims they still let the other student play.
The boy later moved to a school in another district.
In a statement, the district said it knows of the claims.
"Student safety is the district's highest priority," the statement said. It said bullying and hazing are against district rules. It said the district "takes these allegations seriously."
The district said a federal law keeps student records private. So it can't give details about any one student. It also said it does not talk about staff matters.
The district said it will deal with the claims "through the proper legal process."
The claims in the suit have not been proven. No court has found the district at fault.
No hearing date had been set as of Thursday night.
