A Brownsville man is charged with stabbing his own father outside their home.
Police say the son is Ernesto Stuart Owen. He is 36 years old.
The stabbing happened Monday night on the 100 block of Candlewick Court. That was September 7.
The Brownsville Police Department says the father is 71 years old. Police did not give his name. El Tejano is not naming him either.
Police say the son stabbed his father in front of the home. Both men were hurt. Both were taken to a hospital.
The father left the hospital Tuesday morning. That was September 8.
Officers blocked Galveston Road and Candlewick Court. Both roads stayed shut while they worked the scene.
Owen was hurt too. Police say family members hit him during the fight. They were trying to pull him off his father.
A police spokesperson said Owen was hurt by relatives "hitting him trying to separate him while he was stabbing the dad."
Owen is charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon causing serious bodily injury. In plain words, police say he used a weapon and hurt his father badly. The charge is a felony. A felony is the most serious kind of crime in Texas.
His bond is set at $200,000. Bond is money a person pays to get out of jail while a case goes on.
Owen was still in jail Tuesday morning. He was waiting to go in front of a judge.
Police have not said what started the fight. They have not said what kind of weapon was used.
The case now goes to the courts. No court date has been made public.
Everyone is presumed innocent until proved otherwise.
